From the article, Defense
of the Poor image, Hito Steyerl describes what poor qualities images are in
society, such as “Poor
images are the contemporary Wretched of the Screen, the debris of audiovisual
production, the trash that washes up on the digital economies’ shores.” and etc.
Apparently because of the low image quality, many people don’t take them
seriously. In an effort to defend the images explains the probable reason why
the quality is bad, giving reasons such as the reformatting of the document or
the constant uploading and downloading of the image. Though his manner of
writing was a bit confusing, this is what I understood from it. I think his
main message is that one shouldn’t judge the image based on its quality, rather
one should try to understand the message it’s trying to give.
