How would the composition change if one or more lines were removed?
Naturally if anything is removed from anything there is a sense of loss. When something is removed such as lines, it can make a composition feel complete to feeling unfinished. Anything added or subtracted to a piece alters overall composition by creating new feelings towards the piece.
What happens when you combine flat, solid shapes with gradated shapes? Or fuse negative and positive?
Within both of these situations it is combining opposites of each other. When this is applied to a piece it does draw more attention to the viewer due to its use of opposites. When combine negative and positive or flat and 3 dimensional shapes, just like for the first question it will change the feeling towards the piece overall. Combining opposite in anything will create a reaction.
What happens when you invert the values that is -- the black areas become white and the black areas become black?
When the values are inverted the viewer may feel that the feeling portrayed by the piece is also inverted. In terms of inverted colors this definitely plays with emotion since we register many colors with certain emotions or feelings. If a piece shows a depiction of happiness but is expressed in a blue color for example, it could question the happiness produced by the piece.
Choose an artist's piece from the chapter that you liked and talk about the methods used
I enjoyed the piece Horror Vacui by David Canogar because of the usage of multiple hands combined together to create a sense of destruction and creation in a organic form that is done digitally. I like his methods of applying attraction and repulsion to things that are commonly known and making his pieces have a sense of fear.
