questions

What is the most distinguishing feature in each place?
In the woods behind Hume it was definitely the amount of discarded trash and junk collecting dirt. I thought it would have been taken care of a little bit better. In the Reitz it was the sheer amount of people talking, eating, using their phones, and socializing. Compared to the solitude of the woods it was deafening.

What is the purpose or goal of each place?
The woods are probably just un-developed land that probably will never become developed. The Reitz is a place to eat, socialize, and host events, as well as a hotel for visiting families.

What is the essential quality of each place?
In the woods it definitely the fact that it has no purpose; it's just wildlife for wildlife's sake. The Reitz is a huge building with many qualities that together form a social place for eating and whatnot. The modernity of the place is probably what brings it together the most.

How do people react to each place?
Our group didn't have a noticeable reaction to the woods and not a lot of people go there, but I'd say it makes people feel like they're exploring the wilderness. The Reitz is pretty much taken for granted and causes very little in terms of reaction for most people.

How do you compare the two places?
Both places give a sense of solitude (depending on where you are in the Reitz) and can help people focus and study better. The woods, however, makes me feel more like protecting the environment and helping clean natural places like that. The Reitz is the opposite: it kind of makes me forget about the environment and whatnot. The Reitz is a bit bigger than the small patch of woods, but the sense of openness is much quieter.

What is your definition of natural place and unnatural place?
Natural place: A place where one is surrounded by nature and undeveloped land, mostly untouched by the human race
Unnatural place: A place where one feels at odds with the environment; a place that unnerves and is very discomforting
