VG Homework 4-7

Hito Steyerl’s In Defense of the Poor Image one paragraph response

In the article, Defense of the Poor image, the author takes on an interesting stance in defense of poor images. I think its really interesting how he brings up our societies obsession with the best quality possible. To me, this delves in to the topic of video art and filmmaking. There are many video artists out there who seek to make art and may want to use a low quality aesthetic. But these forms of art are not taken seriously or put on display the way high quality movies and tv shows are. They are put down, worth very little when it comes to monetary value. This is an interesting thing to stop and think about as I believe many of us do not look at it from this point of view. The poor image is art with in itself, yet it is not usually viewed as such.
