Ch. 2 Response

Which will work better in your design, a limited or wide range of hues?

A wide range of hues will work better in my design because I'm going for a more realistic look and using more hues will help to create that. A limited range of hues would make it seem too flat.

What happens when your composition is dominated by earth colors and chromatic grays? How does it change when an intense color is added?

When your composition is dominated by earth colors and chromatic grays, the feeling of the piece is more passive than if many different vibrant colors were used. The image is seen as a whole together in harmony. When an intense color is added, there is emphasis on the color as it attracts attention and breaks some of the harmony that exists in the picture.

What are the differences in use of color in Andrew Wyeth's Wind from the Sea and Richard Diebenkorn's Interior with Book

In Wyeth's piece, the color suggests a kind of solemn tone as there are mostly only sepia colors used and it seems to be a peaceful evening with the wind blowing slowly through the window. In Diebenkorn's piece he uses colors very different from Wyeth's as they are vibrant and seem to bring more energy into the picture. There are more gradients used in Wyeth's piece while Diebenkorn uses many blocked areas of color.
