Chapter 2 Response

Which will work better in your design, a limited or wide range of hues?

I believe incorporating more of a wide range of hues within my design will establish a better correlation with my circular objects that have no correlation besides their shapes. Also I believe establishing contrast within colors is a very effective concept for grabbing other peoples attention and adding to contrasting concepts, such as desires and aversions.

What happens when your composition is dominated by earth colors and chromatic grays? How does it change when an intense color is added?

When a composition is consumed with these colors the overall feeling is relatable to the feeling of neutrality or establishes a calm influence. When a intense color is added it creates a contrast causing this color to draw attention to itself in the composition. This color is then associated with a higher importance within the composition changing meaning and or the concept.

What are the differences in use of color in Andrew Wyeth's 'Wind from the Sea' and Richard Diebenkorn's 'Interior With Book?'

Within Wyeth's painting, color is harmonious and transitions are smoothly rendered through gradations. Through it colors of white and various browns it establishes a neutral and a calm historic feeling.
However within Diebenkorn's piece, colors are established vibrantly and in a more geometric style. This piece uses different colors but these colors are all in the range of cool colors giving the entire piece a calm and crisp feeling. However at the same time the colors express a refreshing sense  due to its vibrancy.
