Ch. 2 Response

Which will work better in your design, a limited or wide range of hues?
I think a wider range of hues will work best with my concept since I am trying to highlight the benefits of reading and how I think having a large personal library would be part of my ideal life; a wider and more vibrant range of hues will help translate that.

What happens when your composition is dominated by earth colors and chromatic grays? How does it change when an intense color is added?
These types of colors can actually bring a lot of liveliness to an image (like in Monet's 'The Magpie'). They also tend to bring a sense of unity and harmony. When an intense color is added, the earth colors and chromatic grays provide a sense of balance between muted and saturated.

What are the differences in use of color in Andrew Wyeth's 'Wind from the Sea' and Richard Diebenkorn's 'Interior With Book?'
Wyeth uses the more subdued earth colors and chromatic grays are reminiscent of an old photograph; the less intense colors provide a more calming atmosphere. Diebenkorn's use of color, however, uses highly saturated colors; tension is created by the opposing pulls of the warm and cool colors.
