Ch. 4 Illusion of Space, Illusion of Motion questions :

Which is more appropriate for your idea: a flat design or a spatial design?

In terms of the entire project I believe a spatial design for my context is more appropriate. Since it involves people within their environment I believe it should have a spatial awareness to express a common background to the viewer. I feel a flat design would mostly established within the textual support upon the poster.

What happens when static (unmoving) and dynamic (moving) shapes are used together in a
design?

This creates different spaces of stagnant or moving areas, they can encompass each other and contrast from each other. Both the conceptual ideas of static and dynamic can affect the meaning of the piece whether it would be focusing on contrast or making similarities

Choose one artist in the reading who you feel was most successful in their use of motion and space and write your comments on him/her.

The painting Frieze of Dancers
by Edgar Degas is a good example of the use of motion and space. With little color and gradation Edgar is able to establish a sense of movement with multiple characters while created a vast space through the use of his shadows. The fact that this is successful with little specific detail shows the effectiveness of his use of space and movement.
