BH Homework for 3/24

Reading:
1. Which is more appropriate for your idea: a flat design or a spatial design?
-A flat design seems to be more appropriate for my idea because I don't intend to make my posters look like there is a large amount of space because it's going to be a single subject close to the viewers eye.

2. What happens when static (unmoving) and dynamic (moving) shapes are used together in a design?
-When static and dynamic shapes are used together in design, it creates movement within the picture. The static shapes present the initial feeling of movement while the dynamic shapes give the illusion of movement throughout the picture.

3. Choose one artist in the reading who you feel was most successful in their use of motion and space and write your comments on him/her.
-I believe that Mark Messernsmith, who created Edge of Town in 2005, was the most successful. The highlights on the animals in the scene and the perspective really show a sense a movement going to the front left of the image. There are many dynamic shapes such as the birds flying and the heat flowing out of the car. There are many different motions going in different directions which help show a dimension of space. For example, the helicoopters in the back lights are going a different direction then than the car is and right in the middle of the image there is a tree poking straight up. You notice more and more in this image because all of the different directions move you around.
